Sports/AP gives a bit of an idea about it:
Authorities learned of Giove and Canori's plans last weekend when Illinois State Police pulled over a woman driving a truck and trailer loaded with about 220 pounds of marijuana, DEA spokeswoman Erin Mulvey said. Authorities completed the delivery to the Albany area, where Mulvey said Giove picked up the vehicle and trailer.
WorldChanging Team has another idea:
May 2005April 2005March 2005February 2005January 2005December 2004November 2004October 2004
But David Esrati says that's not all:
Keys were places with large numbers of people who probably drove there (major employers), destinations for eating, entertainment, access to bikeways, event venues, places where young people congregate.
Having that in mind, Todd Scott wonders:
Health economists once made the harsh financial calculation that the obese would save money by dying sooner, notes Jeff Levi, executive director of the Trust for America s Health , a nonprofit public health group. But more recent research instead suggests they live nearly as long but are much sicker for longer, requiring such costly interventions as knee replacements and diabetes care and dialysis. Studies show Medicare spends anywhere from $1,400 to $6,000 more annually on health care for an obese senior than for the non-obese.
phillbecker is absolutely sure that:
I like the rack lower to the ground for stability and safety. I wonder if there s a version where you can switch between the rack and bucket?
myglesias points out another thing aside from that:
Unfortunately, I can t claim perfection in any of these areas I do stupid things sometimes. And, more importantly, I don t understand the connection between the occasional reckless biker and the idea of getting more people to bike by making biking safer.
Jonathan Maus (Editor) does not seem to agree with this. In his own words:
Some of the signatures of a petition opposing the plans. (Download petition here - PDF, 300kb) As of June 23rd, at least 20 downtown business owners had signed a petition against the plan. I obtained a copy of the petition. See who signed it by downloading the PDF here (300kb).

That bike has what is known as two "potato chipped" wheels ( 0.00 / 0 ) My early days on the internet were spent on a mountain bike website where I learned a lot about bike maintenance, where to ride, techniques, and then it evolved into finding wonderful people to ride with from all over the country. Annual gatherings were organized, pictures, videos and wildly descriptive stories were told. I met so many wonderful people. Unfortunately I don't ride much these days, but some of my best times ever was a healthy blending of bikes and the internet. The most interesting conversation threads had a social or political element. Later as the site evolved, a special section was dedicated to political discussions. The community became more skattered in all the detailed little forums. I'll have to start looking up some of those folks in facebook!
Despite the previous arguments, CB has many reasons to think otherwise:

A narrow skirt without any design to allow for extra mobility, however, will make for an uncomfortable bike ride. Half of your energy must be devoted to hiking the skirt up enough but not too much at each start and stop. I experienced this first-hand last week while riding from my work to the Active Trans mixer. The skirt created more problems than I anticipated I could not pedal without hiking it up quite a bit. Instead of simply putting a foot down at each stop, I had to dismount completely. With each start I had to hitch and hop all over again. At least the pleated ruffle on the bottom helpfully served as a curtain of sorts.

Midsummer was spent in the lovely company of friends, and my birthday was spent on a boat with Anna Jan and an engine that only fired on one cylinder and gave up the ghost next to the industrial dry docks on the shitty side of the river. After poking and swearing at the engine for half an hour, we called Janne who was all manly and stuff, actually managing to fix the engine well enough to get us to an emergency port. My contribution to our efforts was limited to sunbathing and being a human fender.

I m still figuring that out and will have a full review shortly but so far, I have to say that I m very impressed with the technology being utilized in this bike. First off, this isn t one of those bikes that you hit a switch and kick back while the electric motors putts you along. The IZIP instead is an electric-assist giving you some extra torque to help you up some tough inclines. To that end, you still have to pedal. The beauty of this system is that you can choose to have it on or off or at different levels of assist. About to hit a hill and want some support? Simply press the + button on the left handlebar and watch the LCD indicator light a few bars higher. Want to back off? Hit the - button. It s as simple as that and believe me, you still get a workout.

The article also features a quote from Dean Mullin, one of four co-owners of Clever Cycles on SE Hawthorne Blvd. in Portland. Mullin (and others in the story) says women are the largest part of the transportation bike market, but that there s still a gap in bikes that appeal to them.
Bee-Shyuan Chang does not seem to agree with this. In his own words:
